Seigneurs

Seigneurs were former soldiers/supporters that, later, did nothing for themselves. Habitants were brought for money and labour. Each habitant worked on his farm for at least three days. The seigneur payed for the building of roads, but the money did not go to the people doing the hard labour, but the king. The habitants were given this "privilege" of working for the seigneur, in return of nothing but the land they are already paying for. The seigneur took care of the church and the entire estate at that. Every November 11th, habitants would come in his mansion, and give him the money/produce.
