Why...
Why was the Seigneurial System Established?
It took place for order and organization. A man would be chosen by the king of France to own land. This land was distributed to lower class people who needed a home along the river and needed supplies, so the habitants were there to take care of the seigneur's demands while being able to have their own home but in exchange for labour around the town.
Why was there a Seigneur to take Charge?
Seigneurs took charge because before they were a seigneur, they were either a soldier or supporters and the king granted them the land because he was being thankful for all the hard work they did for him. They were givin a home for a seigneur and his family to live in and so they got land that was about 5-10 km with a mill, wine press, field lots, a church, a river, and habitants working for them. Also, without a seigneur there would be no one to give orders or build the economy. The seigneur was basically the mayor of that land.
Why was the Seigneurial System Abolished?
The seigneurial system was abolished because from 1763-1791 people were taking advantage, pulling tricks and eventually they tried to get rid of the seigneurial system, but the king did not agree until 1854 when it was abolished for having little point of being there when no one wanted it anymore. Initially, it was the british that told the habitants about how this system was corrupt, so the habitants decided to trick the king into ending it like he tricked them into starting it.
